South Alabama Rural Training (SART) Program

Welcome to the South Alabama Rural Training (SART) Program, a collaborative initiative by West Central Alabama AHEC, Southern Alabama AHEC, Southeast Alabama AHEC, and Alabama Delta Region Collaborative Network (ADRC). SART is designed to pave the way for individuals aged 18+ residing in specific counties, fostering their education and professional growth in administrative support roles within rural healthcare facilities.

Program Details:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Participants must be aged 18+
  • Reside in specific counties: Butler, Clarke, Escambia, Conecuh, Monroe, Hale, Perry, Sumter, Marengo, Choctaw, Greene, Russell, Barbour, Bullock.

Course Options:

Participants can choose from a variety of FREE courses provided by the University of South Alabama and Shelton State Community College. Courses include:

  • Medical Billing and Coding Program (12-18 months)
  • Medical Billing Specialist with Electronic Health Records (12 months)
  • Medical Office Manager (CPPM, 18 months)
  • Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA, 6 months)
  • Medical Billing and Coding Program (80 classroom hrs, Shelton State CC)
  • Medical Administrative Assistant (50 classroom hours, Shelton State CC)
  • Other Non-Clinical Administrative Certifications

Participant Benefits:

  • Full scholarship coverage for tuition, fees, books, and related educational expenses.
  • Job placement in rural healthcare facilities upon program completion.
  • Laptops provided based on need.
  • Quarterly stipends ranging from $3500 to $5500.
  • Additional $2000 stipend upon securing a job within two months of graduation.
